Should I remove mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been leaking a little bit for a couple of months, and now I’m seeing these small black spots spreading on the wall behind the unit. We’ve been getting more headaches than usual and I’m worried it’s the mold. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach, or is this a serious job where I need to call a professional mold removal company, and what kind of cost am I looking at for a small area like that?

Based on your description of the AC leak in JVC and the emerging black spots, you are almost certainly dealing with a mold colony. The persistent moisture from the leak has created the perfect environment for growth. The headaches you're experiencing are a significant red flag and a common symptom of exposure to mold spores, indicating the issue is already affecting your indoor air quality.

In the UAE's humid climate, DIY methods like bleach are strongly discouraged. Bleach only removes the surface discoloration but does not kill the root structure (hyphae) of the mold, and its high water content can actually feed the problem, causing it to return worse than before. Furthermore, improper cleaning can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination throughout your apartment.

For a situation like this, a professional inspection is absolutely critical. We need to assess not just the visible wall, but the internal AC unit, drip pan, and ductwork for hidden contamination. Dubai Municipality has specific guidelines for indoor air quality and mold remediation that professionals are trained to follow, ensuring the job is done safely and effectively.

For a small, localized area, professional remediation might cost between AED 1,500 to AED 3,500, but this can vary based on the extent of hidden damage. Given your health symptoms, this is not a risk to take. I recommend you call our certified team for a proper assessment. You can reach us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
