AC mold from leaking unit: DIY or call Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking into the wardrobe for a while, and I’ve just pulled out my winter clothes to find black, fuzzy mold all over the back wall and several jackets. I’m in a villa in Mirdif, and it’s definitely been an issue since the last big humidity spike. What’s the best way to handle this myself, or should I just call a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai straight away?

Based on your description, this is a serious contamination case that absolutely requires professional remediation, not a DIY job.

The black, fuzzy growth indicates a significant, established colony, likely Stachybotrys chartarum (toxic black mold) or Aspergillus, both of which are serious health hazards. The fact that the leak has been ongoing and has permeated porous materials like drywall and textiles means the problem is extensive. In the UAE's climate, with our high humidity, this mold will have spread far beyond what's visible, likely into the wall cavity and possibly the AC system itself. DIY cleaning with bleach or vinegar is completely ineffective at this stage and can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination throughout your villa and making the problem much worse.

Under Dubai Municipality regulations, proper remediation involves full containment with negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, professional-grade antimicrobials, and the safe disposal of contaminated porous materials like your jackets and likely the affected wall section. Attempting this yourself not only risks your health but likely violates proper disposal protocols for hazardous biological waste.

For a case this severe in Mirdif, you need a certified team to handle it. I strongly recommend you stop using the AC in that room immediately and call a professional for an inspection and remediation quote.

Call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment. Don't risk your family's health on a DIY fix that wont solve the root cause.
