Can I remove mold myself or call a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our family room wall behind the sofa has a bunch of black and greenish spots that seem to be spreading since the humidity kicked in a few weeks back. We're in an older villa in Al Barsha and the room always feels a bit damp. I’m handy with a paintbrush, but my wife thinks we need a professional. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and water, or is it time to call in a mold inspection company?

Based on the description of spreading black and greenish spots on a wall in an Al Barsha villa, I strongly recommend you call a professional for an inspection. This is not a DIY job.

The persistent dampness and the fact it's on a structural wall are major red flags. In older villas, what you see on the surface is often just the tip of the iceberg. The mold growth is likely penetrating the gypsum board and insulation behind it. Bleach is a surface-level fix; it will bleach the colour but won't kill the roots (hyphae) deep within the porous material. It also doesn't address the moisture source, guaranteeing the mold will return, often worse than before. The damp feeling confirms an ongoing humidity issue that needs professional diagnosis.

In Dubai, uncontained DIY removal can seriously cross-contaminate your home's air, spreading spores to other areas and creating a much larger, more hazardous, and expensive problem. Our certified inspectors use moisture meters, thermal imaging, and air sampling to identify the exact species (some are more hazardous than others) and the full extent of the infestation, including the hidden moisture source.

For a proper assessment and a remediation plan that follows UAE health and safety guidelines, it's time to call the pros. Please reach out to our team for a comprehensive inspection. You can call us at 800-MOLDS or 800-66537, or email hello@saniservice.com.
