Should I remove black mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be leaking water onto the wall behind my bedroom wardrobe in Silicon Oasis. I finally moved the unit and found a big patch of black mold that's been spreading for who knows how long. I'm worried about the health effects but also not sure if this is a simple bleach job or something bigger that needs a professional. Is this something I can safely handle myself, or should I call a mold remediation company?

Hi there. That's a very common and serious issue here in Dubai, especially in areas like Silicon Oasis where AC units run constantly. From your description, you should absolutely NOT handle this yourself with bleach.

The black patch behind the wardrobe is a major red flag. This indicates a prolonged moisture issue from the AC leak, meaning the mold has likely penetrated deep into the building materials, possibly the drywall and even the concrete behind it. Surface cleaning with bleach is completely ineffective for this; it only bleaches the color but doesn't kill the root structure (the hyphae), and the mold will return quickly. More importantly, disturbing it without proper containment will release a massive amount of toxic spores into your living space, posing significant health risks.

Under the Dubai Municipality regulations, any mold infestation over 10 square feet (approx. 1 sq meter) – which it sounds like you have – requires professional assessment and remediation. We use industrial-grade HEPA air scrubbers for containment, antimicrobial agents for biocidal cleaning, and specialized techniques like dry ice blasting to safely remove the infestation at its source without cross-contaminating your apartment.

Given the location and the AC source, a full inspection is critical to assess the full extent. I strongly recommend you call a professional. Our certified inspectors can be reached at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or you can email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment. Do not disturb the area until then.
