What's the best product to kill black mold permanently?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, right on the wall. It's been really humid in our Deira apartment for the last month and the closet is on the exterior wall. What's the absolute best product I can get from ACE or any local store to safely kill this mold and stop it from coming back?

Based on the details you've provided about your Deira apartment, this is a classic case of condensation-related mold growth, exacerbated by the current high humidity and the cold bridge effect of that exterior wall. The "best product" isn't just a single spray; it's a two-step process of eradication and, more critically, addressing the moisture source.

For immediate treatment, your best bet from ACE or a local hardware store is a concentrated, professional-grade biocide like Foster 40-80. It's a hospital-grade disinfectant and fungicide that is highly effective. You MUST wear an N95 mask, gloves, and eye protection. Do not use bleach, as it only removes the surface color and can force the mold deeper into the porous wall material.

However, no product will kill mold "permanently" if the moisture issue isn't resolved. The mold will 100% return. In the UAE's climate, especially in older buildings in areas like Deira, the root cause is almost always excess humidity and inadequate ventilation. You need to run a dehumidifier in that room consistently and improve air circulation around that closet. Leave the closet door open and consider a small desiccant dehumidifier inside it.

Frankly, because this is on a wall, there's a significant chance the growth extends behind the drywall or plaster. Surface treatment is only a temporary fix. For a permanent solution and to ensure the structural integrity of your wall isn't compromised, a professional inspection is strongly advised. We use thermal imaging cameras to identify hidden moisture and the exact extent of the contamination.
