Landlord or mold company for Jumeirah villa mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. It must have been there a while, but we only saw it when we moved the furniture to rearrange the room. With the humidity lately, I'm worried it's spreading. What's the best way to handle this properly – should I call our landlord first or a professional mold remediation company directly?

Good question, and this is a very common situation here in Jumeirah villas, especially with the recent humidity spike. That hidden location behind the wardrobe is a classic spot for mold due to lack of air circulation.

The correct first step is absolutely to notify your landlord in writing immediately. Under UAE tenancy law, structural maintenance and issues arising from the building's condition (like poor external sealing or inherent ventilation problems) are the landlord's responsibility. Sending them a photo and a formal email creates a necessary paper trail.

However, given that you've discovered it and it's likely been growing, you need a professional assessment. A landlord might send a general handyman who will just wipe it with bleach, which only bleaches the colour and doesn't address the root moisture source or remove the spores. This is a temporary fix and it will return.

For a proper resolution, you should strongly recommend to your landlord that they hire a certified mold inspection and remediation company. We can perform tests to identify the mold type (some are more hazardous than others) and use thermal imaging cameras to find the exact moisture source—whether it's a small leak, condensation, or rising damp. The remediation process then involves proper containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment, not just a superficial clean.

If the landlord is unresponsive, you can get a professional inspection yourself to understand the full scope. For a villa in Jumeirah, this is not a DIY job.

Feel free to call us for a consultation at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can provide a report you can even share with your landlord to expedite the process.
