Is this dangerous mold in my Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I finally decided to check behind the wardrobe in their bedroom. I found a patch of black and green fuzzy stuff spreading from the corner of the wall where it meets the floor. We're in a villa in Jumeirah and I'm worried the recent humidity made it worse. How do I know if this is the dangerous kind of mold and who should I call to get it properly removed and fixed in Dubai?

Based on your description, the black and green fuzzy growth behind the wardrobe is highly likely to be a mold colony. The conditions you've described—a hidden, poorly ventilated area in a humid climate—are a perfect breeding ground. The persistent cough in your children is a significant red flag and a common symptom of mold exposure.

Determining if it's "dangerous" (e.g., Stachybotrys chartarum, or "black mold") requires professional laboratory analysis. You cannot identify toxic species by color alone. The recent high humidity in Jumeirah has absolutely exacerbated the problem, as mold thrives above 60% RH.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself. Disturbing it will release a massive amount of spores and mycotoxins into the air, potentially worsening your family's health issues. The first step is a Certified Mold Inspection. A professional will conduct air quality tests and take surface samples to identify the species and concentration levels, which is critical for planning the remediation.

In Dubai, reputable remediation companies follow international guidelines like the IICRC S520. They will contain the area, use HEPA filtration to scrub the air, safely remove the contaminated materials, and most importantly, identify and fix the source of the moisture to prevent recurrence (e.g., a leaking pipe, capillary rise from the slab, or condensation).

For a proper inspection and a quote for safe, guaranteed remediation, you need to call a professional environmental service. Call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 to speak with a specialist immediately.
