AC mold and cooling issues: professional repair or replacement?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black spots forming around the vents of our upstairs AC unit in our Jumeirah villa. The air doesn't feel as cold as it used to, and there's a persistent damp smell in the bedrooms that's gotten worse since the humidity started rising last month. I'm worried it's the mold chiller unit, but I have no idea what a repair or full replacement might cost here. Should I just call a professional company like Emicool for a quote, or is this something that can be fixed more affordably?

Based on the symptoms you've described – black spots around vents, reduced cooling, and a persistent damp smell – this is a classic case of microbial growth within your AC system, very common in Jumeirah villas due to the high humidity. This is a serious indoor air quality issue that needs immediate professional attention.
The "mold chiller" you're referring to is likely the evaporator coil inside your Air Handling Unit (AHU), which is a prime location for mold growth. When the coil gets cold, it condenses moisture from the air. If the drain pan is clogged or the insulation is faulty, that moisture sits there, creating a perfect breeding ground for mold, which then gets blown throughout your home. This is not a simple DIY fix. Improper cleaning can aerosolize the spores and contaminate your entire property. We follow strict NADCA ACR standards for assessment and remediation. The cost for a full system hygienization is always far less than a full chiller replacement, which is rarely necessary. Emicool handles district cooling supply, but for the internal AHU and ductwork inside your villa, you need a specialized environmental company like ours. We will perform a full inspection, including borescope camera checks of the ducts and air quality testing to identify the spore types and concentration. Then, we use EPA-approved biocides and specialized equipment to safely remediate the issue and restore your air quality. Given the health risks, especially with the humidity rising, I strongly recommend a professional inspection.
