How to permanently remove and prevent black mold?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's the black mold that’s growing along the bottom of the walls in their bedroom. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it after the recent humidity spike. The room is on the side of the villa that doesn't get much sun in Dubai Marina. What’s the best long-term solution to kill this mold for good and stop it from coming back every season?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation requiring immediate professional attention. The persistent cough in your children is a significant health red flag, and the mold's location along the wall base suggests a potential hidden moisture issue, common in villas in Dubai Marina due to the high ambient humidity and lack of sun exposure on certain sides.
Permanent removal is a multi-step process, not a simple cleaning. First, the actual moisture source must be identified and corrected. This could be capillary rising damp from the foundation (a known issue here), a hidden pipe leak, or condensation from the A/C system due to the extreme temperature differential. A professional inspection, including thermal imaging and moisture mapping, is absolutely critical to diagnose this. just wiping the visible mold won't solve the underlying problem and it will return. The remediation process itself requires containment and professional-grade antimicrobial agents to kill the mold roots deep within the plaster and concrete. For long-term prevention, after the source is fixed, we recommend applying a specialized waterproofing plaster and coating system on the interior walls to create a permanent barrier against moisture. Improving room ventilation, possibly with an energy recovery ventilator (ERV), is also key to managing the humid air. Given the health symptoms and the high probability of a structural moisture issue, a DIY approach is strongly discouraged. We need to test the mold type and assess the property's structure.
