Is black mold behind wardrobe dangerous for my baby?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the bottom of the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Village Circle. It’s been really humid lately and the AC has been struggling to keep up. My main worry is my one-year-old who sleeps in that room – should I be packing our bags and staying somewhere else tonight, or is this something I can get maintenance to handle in the next few days?

As a certified mold remediation specialist operating in Dubai, I can confirm that any black mold growth, especially in a child's bedroom, is a serious health concern that requires immediate attention. The black spots you describe behind the wardrobe are likely Stachybotrys chartarum or another toxigenic species, which thrive in the exact conditions you mentioned: high humidity and inadequate AC performance, which is a common issue in JVC during the summer months.

For your one-year-old, whose immune and respiratory systems are still developing, exposure can lead to significant health risks. These include chronic coughing, wheezing, eye and skin irritation, and more severe allergic reactions. Given the proximity to where your baby sleeps, the risk of prolonged spore inhalation is high.

DO NOT attempt to clean this yourself. Disturbing the mold will release a massive cloud of spores into the air. Your first step is to isolate the area; keep the bedroom door closed and the AC off to prevent cross-contamination. For the safety of your family, especially your infant, I strongly recommend relocating to another room tonight until a professional assessment can be made.

This is not a simple maintenance issue for your building's handyman. It requires a professional inspection to identify the moisture source (likely a hidden condensation or seepage issue) and proper remediation following strict UAE health and safety protocols. We use specialized equipment like moisture meters and thermal cameras to pinpoint the problem.

Please, do not delay. Call our team immediately for a professional assessment. We can be reached at 800-MOLDS or 800-66537. You can also email us at hello@saniservice.com to schedule an urgent inspection. Your baby's health is paramount.
