Should I remove this recurring black mold myself?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet on the outside wall has developed a patch of black mold since the humidity spiked. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it came back darker after a few days, and now my sweaters smell musty. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional to check for a bigger problem behind the wall?

Based on your description, this is a classic case where DIY methods are insufficient. The recurrence and darkening after a vinegar wipe is a major red flag. In our climate, black mold recurrence almost always indicates a persistent moisture source, likely a concealed leak in the AC condensation line, a plumbing issue, or water ingress through the external wall, which is very common here due to the high humidity and occasional heavy rains.

Attempting a stronger cleaner, like bleach, is not only ineffective (it only bleaches the surface while the root structure remains) but can be hazardous, releasing harmful spores and VOCs into your living space. The musty odor on your clothes confirms the mold is actively producing microbial VOCs, which can affect indoor air quality and health.

UAE civil defense regulations and guidelines from Dubai Municipality strongly advise against unqualified handling of mold, especially of this nature, due to the health risks and potential for improper containment leading to cross-contamination.

You absolutely need a professional inspection. We use thermal imaging cameras to identify hidden moisture pockets and borescopes to inspect inside walls without unnecessary damage. This identifies the true source so it can be remediated correctly, not just the visible symptom. For a proper assessment and to prevent this from spreading further, I strongly recommend calling in a certified team.

Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection. We'll find the source and give you a clear plan to fix it for good.
