Rattling AC noise but cold air: DIY fix or call technician?« Back to Previous Page

My apartment's AC in the bedroom has started making a loud rattling noise every time it kicks on, especially at night when it's trying to maintain temperature. It's been going on for about two weeks now and it's driving me crazy, but the air coming out is still cold. Is this something I can try to fix myself by cleaning the outdoor unit, or is this definitely a job for a technician before the real summer heat hits?

Based on your description, that loud rattling noise at startup is a classic symptom of a mechanical issue, not a simple cleaning problem. While the air is still cold, this indicates the refrigerant side is functioning, but the mechanical components are failing.

The most common culprits here in Dubai are a failing compressor (the heart of the unit, and a very expensive fix), loose or damaged fan blades in the outdoor unit, or a severely worn motor bearing. The extreme ambient heat and continuous operation our systems endure accelerate this wear and tear. A loose component vibrating against the casing can also cause this.

Attempting a DIY fix, especially on the outdoor unit, is highly inadvisable. Our systems are complex, and tampering without proper training can void your building's chiller contract or, worse, cause personal injury or further damage. Furthermore, accessing the outdoor unit often requires specialized equipment for high-rise buildings, which is a significant safety risk.

This is absolutely a job for a certified technician. The noise will only get worse, leading to a complete system failure, most likely during the peak summer heat when you need it most and repair wait times are longest.

I strongly recommend you schedule a professional inspection immediately. Our certified team can diagnose the exact cause of the noise and provide a transparent quote for the repair. Don't wait for a total breakdown.
