Black mold from AC drip: DIY or call management?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of long, fuzzy black mold patches growing behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. I think it’s from the AC unit on the wall that constantly drips a little water, and with the humidity lately, it’s gotten out of control. What’s the best way to deal with this myself, or should I call building management first?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation that requires immediate attention. Long, fuzzy black mold growth, especially behind furniture, indicates a persistent moisture issue, in this case from the AC condensate drip. This is a very common problem in Dubai due to our high humidity and constant AC use.
First, do not attempt a significant DIY cleanup. Disturbing large patches of stachybotrys (the "black mold" you're likely seeing) can aerosolize harmful mycotoxins, posing a serious health risk to you and your family. Your priority is to stop the moisture source. You should 100% call building management first. According to UAE tenancy law and common building regulations, the maintenance of the central AC system, including the drainage line and the unit itself, is typically the responsibility of the property owner or management company. They need to send their HVAC technician to rectify the condensate drip immediately. This is the first and most critical step. However, the existing mold infestation is now a separate issue. Given the extent you've described (a "bunch of patches"), this is beyond a simple wipe-down. The mold has likely penetrated the wall material. Professional inspection and remediation are strongly advised. We use specialized equipment like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to determine the full extent of the damage behind the wall, which is almost always worse than it appears. For a proper assessment and a safe, guaranteed remediation plan, please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can coordinate with your building management to ensure the problem is solved at its root. |
