AC grinding noise in Dubai: must I hire a technician?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been making this weird grinding noise for a couple of days, especially when it starts up. It’s still blowing cold air for now, but I’m worried it’s going to konk out right as the heat is getting worse. I’m pretty handy with most things, but HVAC stuff feels like a different league. For this kind of repair in Dubai, is it an absolute must to hire a certified technician, or is there anything safe I can check myself first?

Based on the symptoms you've described, particularly the grinding noise on startup in your JVC apartment, I strongly advise against any DIY attempts and recommend you hire a certified HVAC technician immediately.

That specific grinding noise is a critical warning sign. In the UAE's extreme climate, an AC unit is a pressurized, complex system running on high-voltage electricity and refrigerant gases, which are heavily regulated by the Dubai Municipality and the UAE's Regulation & Supervision Bureau. Tampering with it yourself, even just to "take a look," can be extremely dangerous, void your unit's warranty, and violate local regulations regarding handling refrigerants.

The noise you're hearing is almost certainly a mechanical failure within the compressor or the fan motor bearings. These are not user-serviceable parts. While it might still be blowing cool air, continued operation will cause catastrophic secondary damage, turning a potentially repairable issue into a full, costly compressor replacement. The increasing ambient heat will only strain the failing components further, drastically increasing the likelihood of a total breakdown.

For your safety and to protect your investment, this is not a repair to delay or gamble on. You need a specialist with the proper certification to handle refrigerants (as mandated by UAE law) and the diagnostic tools to accurately pinpoint the fault.

For a proper diagnosis and repair by certified technicians, please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can dispatch a team to Jumeirah Village Circle to assess the situation before the problem escalates.
