Can I remove AC mold myself or need a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC unit in our master bedroom in our villa in Mirdif has been leaking a bit of water onto the carpet for the last few weeks, and now I’m seeing a small black patch of mold starting to form on the base of the wall. We’ve had the AC guys out to fix the leak, but I’m worried the mold is already inside the wall. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and a scrub brush from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai, and if so, roughly how much should I expect to pay for a small area like this?

Based on your description, this absolutely requires a professional assessment and remediation. The leak has been ongoing for weeks, and the visible mold on the wall's base is a major red flag. In the UAE's climate, that water has almost certainly wicked up into the drywall and insulation behind it, creating a significant hidden mold colony that simple surface cleaning cannot address.

Using bleach is strongly discouraged. It is ineffective on porous materials like drywall and carpet backing, and its high water content can actually feed the mold roots deep within. It also poses a serious respiratory hazard in an enclosed space.

For a proper remediation, the affected section of drywall and the contaminated carpet and underlay must be carefully removed under containment to prevent cross-contamination. The area will then need to be HEPA-vacuumed, sanded, and treated with EPA-approved antimicrobial agents before reconstruction. This is not a DIY job.

Under Dubai Municipality guidelines, significant mold infestations, especially those involving building materials, should be handled by certified professionals to ensure the health and safety of occupants and that the property is restored to a hygienic standard.

For a small area like a single wall base, you could be looking at a cost ranging from AED 1,500 to AED 3,500, depending on the extent of the hidden damage. The only way to get an accurate assessment and quote is to have a certified inspector perform a moisture and mold survey.

Do not delay on this. For a proper inspection and remediation quote, you should call our team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We serve the Mirdif area routinely.
