Eco-friendly mold testing for JVC AC causing sickness?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been making this weird, damp smell for the past couple of months, especially right when it kicks on. My husband has developed a persistent cough that gets worse at night, and I’ve been waking up with headaches and a scratchy throat. We had the filters cleaned but it didn’t help. Could this be mold in the AC unit and what’s the most eco-friendly way to get it professionally tested and cleaned?

Based on your description of a damp smell coinciding with AC activation and the associated respiratory symptoms (nocturnal cough, headaches, scratchy throat), there is a very high probability you are dealing with microbial contamination, specifically mold or bacteria, within your AC system. This is a common issue in JVC and across Dubai due to our high humidity levels, which create condensation inside AC units – a perfect breeding ground for such growth. Simply cleaning the filters is insufficient as the contamination is likely deep within the evaporator coils, drip pan, and ductwork.

For eco-friendly professional testing, we utilize a method called Air-O-Cell cassette sampling. This is a non-invasive, low-impact technique that captures airborne spores directly from your AC vents. It provides a precise snapshot of what you're breathing, without the use of harsh chemicals or producing significant waste. This testing is crucial to identify the specific type of mold spore and its concentration, which guides the remediation protocol.

The most effective and environmentally conscious cleaning method is a two-step process: First, a thorough dry-ice blasting of the internal coils to dislodge all biological debris. This is followed by an application of an EPA-approved, non-toxic, plant-based enzymatic cleaner. This combination physically removes the biofilm and then breaks down the organic matter at a molecular level, preventing rapid regrowth without releasing harmful biocides into your home.

Given the clear health symptoms, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. We are certified by Dubai Municipality and follow all UAE standards for indoor air quality. Our team can diagnose the issue and provide a safe, effective, and green solution.
