Can I remove black mold myself or need a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black spots I just found behind our bedroom wardrobe in our Jumeirah villa. It's been so humid the past month and the wall feels a bit damp to the touch. I'm worried about the health risks but also on a tight budget. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach, or is this a job where I absolutely need to call in professional mold remediation companies in Dubai, and if so, what kind of cost am I looking at?

Based on the situation you described in your Jumeirah villa, I strongly advise against attempting this yourself. The presence of persistent dampness, visible black discoloration, and correlating health symptoms in children are clear indicators that this requires a professional assessment.

DIY methods like bleach are highly discouraged. They only address surface discoloration and do not kill the mold roots (hyphae) deep within the building materials. More critically, improper cleaning can aerosolize highly concentrated spores, significantly worsening the indoor air quality and potentially exacerbating your family's respiratory issues. The high humidity we experience here in the UAE creates a perfect environment for rapid mold proliferation behind walls and in cavities, far beyond what is visible.

Regarding cost in Dubai, it is highly variable and depends on the extent of contamination. A professional inspection and air quality test (which we always recommend first) can start from around AED 800-1500. For remediation, for a localized area behind a wardrobe, you might be looking at a few thousand Dirhams. However, if the moisture source is a larger issue (like a hidden pipe leak or rising damp) and contamination has spread, costs will understandably be higher. A reputable company will provide a detailed scope of work and a fixed-price quote after the initial inspection.

For your family's health and to properly solve the problem, please get a professional opinion. You can call our certified inspectors at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a consultation.
