AC mold in Dubai: DIY or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My AC unit in the bedroom closet started leaking a bit during the last humid spell, and now I’m seeing small black spots on the back wall. The musty smell is really strong when the AC kicks on. I’m worried it's spreading inside the duct but I’m hesitant to call a costly professional if it’s something I can tackle with a bleach spray myself. Is this a safe DIY job or should I just get a mold remediation company in Dubai to handle it?

Based on your description, this is definitely not a DIY job. What you're describing—a water leak from the AC unit, visible black spots, and a strong musty odor when it runs—points to a serious mold contamination issue, likely inside the ductwork and potentially the evaporator coil.

In the UAE's climate, that humidity is a massive fuel source for mold, and bleach is completely ineffective for this type of problem. It only bleaches the surface color and is mostly water, which actually feeds the root structure (hyphae) deeper inside the wall and materials. It also doesn't address the spores that have been aerosolized and spread through your ducts every time the AC turns on.

Professionally, we use industrial-grade HEPA vacuums, antimicrobial coatings, and specialized techniques to contain and remove the contamination. Crucially, the source of the moisture—the leak in the AC drain line or condensate pan—MUST be identified and repaired first, or the mold will just come right back.

For a situation like this, especially with the airborne spread, a professional inspection and remediation is the only safe and effective solution. We follow strict guidelines from the likes of the Dubai Municipality and NEHA to ensure the problem is solved correctly. Trying to handle it yourself could worsen the spore spread and expose you to health risks.

Call us for a proper assessment. We can determine the full extent and provide a clear solution. 800-MOLDS or hello@saniservice.com.
