Mold on closet wall: DIY fix or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for two years and just noticed dark, fuzzy mold appearing on the back of our bedroom closet. It's the interior wall facing away from the AC, and it feels damp to the touch, especially in the mornings. I'm worried this is a bigger humidity issue and I'm not sure if buying a dehumidifier from the mall will be enough or if I need to call a professional company to assess the whole room. What's the best way to handle a persistent damp problem like this?

Good question, and this is a very common issue we see in Jumeirah villas. That dark, fuzzy mold is a clear indicator of a persistent humidity problem, not just a surface issue. The fact that it's on an interior wall and feels damp points to condensation forming due to a temperature differential between the room and the cooler wall cavity, exacerbated by the UAE's extreme ambient humidity.

A mall-bought dehumidifier is a temporary mitigation tool; it will help manage the room's general air moisture but will NOT address the root cause. The dampness in the wall suggests potential issues like a small plumbing leak, insufficient insulation within the wall (a common issue in older builds not optimized for our climate), or compromised vapor barriers. The Dubai Green Building Regulations emphasize proper building envelope performance to prevent such interstitial condensation.

For a proper fix, you need a professional inspection. We would use thermal imaging cameras to identify cold spots and moisture meters to quantify the dampness within the wall structure itself. Simply wiping the mold away is insufficient and can aggravate spore dispersal.

My strong recommendation is to call a professional. Our teams are certified to handle this exact scenario—we identify the moisture source, perform the necessary remediation (like injection drying or improving ventilation), and then hygienize the area to IAQ standards.

Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive assessment. Leaving this untreated will only allow the mold to propagate further into the building materials.
