Should I hire a pro for large black mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed a huge patch of black mold behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom, probably from a slow leak in the AC unit. The area is about two meters wide and it’s starting to spread to the wall. With the humidity, I’m worried about my family’s health, but I have no idea what this involves or how much it should cost to fix properly. Is it worth trying to clean this myself with bleach, or should I hire a professional mold remediation company in Dubai, and what’s a reasonable price range for a job this size?

Given the scale you're describing (a two-meter patch with visible spread), this is absolutely a job for a professional remediation company, and DIY cleaning with bleach is highly inadvisable. In Dubai's high-humidity climate, surface cleaning with bleach will not address the root moisture problem or the mold growing within the wall cavity and structure, leading to rapid regrowth and potentially spreading spores throughout your home.

A certified professional will follow a strict protocol: first, identifying and fixing the AC leak source to prevent recurrence. Then, they'll implement full containment of the area with physical barriers and negative air pressure (air scrubbers) to prevent cross-contamination during the remediation. The affected drywall and insulation likely need to be removed and disposed of safely. All remaining surfaces will be HEPA vacuumed, abrasive-cleaned, and treated with an EPA-approved antimicrobial agent. Finally, post-remediation verification (PRV) testing is crucial to confirm the spore count is back to a safe, background level.

For a job of this size, involving source correction, containment, and disposal, you should expect a reasonable price range to be between AED 3,500 and AED 7,000, depending on the extent of the damage behind the wall. This investment ensures it's done to Dubai Municipality standards, protecting your property value and, most importantly, your family's health from respiratory issues and allergens.
