Can I remove black mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom in the Jumeirah Village apartment has felt really stuffy lately, and I've started waking up with a dry throat. I found what looks like a small patch of black mold behind the wardrobe, which must have been there for a while. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from Ace Hardware, or do I absolutely need to call a certified mold remediation company to check it out properly?

Excellent question, and a very common issue we see here in Dubai, especially in areas like JVC with its high humidity levels. Given the symptoms you're describing—waking up with a dry throat and a confirmed mold presence—this is a situation that warrants immediate and professional attention.

While a small patch might seem like a DIY job, using bleach from a hardware store is strongly discouraged. Bleach is mostly water, which actually feeds the mold root system hidden within porous materials like drywall. It may bleach the visible spores white, giving a false sense of security, but the root structure remains and will regrow, often worse than before. More critically, the act of scrubbing it yourself can aerosolize millions of toxic spores, drastically worsening your indoor air quality and potentially causing more severe respiratory issues.

In the UAE, proper mold remediation isn't just about cleaning; it's about identifying and correcting the source of moisture (like a small AC leak or condensation buildup, which is extremely common here) and containing the area to prevent cross-contamination to other parts of your apartment. Our certified teams use industrial-grade HEPA filtration, antimicrobials approved by Dubai Municipality, and moisture meters to ensure the problem is solved at its root.

For your health and the integrity of your apartment, I highly recommend a professional inspection. We can assess the true extent of the growth and the moisture source.

Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive assessment. It's the safest way to ensure your bedroom is truly healthy again.
