Can I clean large black mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the past month and we can't figure out why. I just pulled our big wardrobe away from the bedroom wall in our Jumeirah apartment and found a huge patch of black mold spreading behind it, probably from the AC condensation. It must have been growing there for ages. Is this something I can safely clean myself with bleach, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company to handle it?

Given the scenario you've described in your Jumeirah apartment, I strongly advise against a DIY approach. The persistent coughing in your children is a significant red flag, indicating potential long-term exposure to mold spores, which can cause serious respiratory issues.
What you're seeing behind the wardrobe is likely just the "bloom" or visible colony; the hidden fungal roots (hyphae) can penetrate deep into the building materials, especially with AC condensation as a constant moisture source. While bleach might seem like a solution, it is largely ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall. It only bleaches the visible colour on the surface and its high water content can actually feed the mold roots deep within, causing it to return stronger. More critically, improper cleaning will aerosolize a massive amount of toxic spores, drastically increasing the inhalation risk for your family. In the UAE, especially in high-humidity coastal areas like Jumeirah, this is a serious indoor air quality and health hazard. For a large, hidden infestation that's already affecting health, professional remediation is not just recommended, it's essential. We use industrial-grade HEPA containment systems, antimicrobial agents specifically designed to kill the roots, and advanced drying techniques to address the moisture source (like the AC leak) to prevent recurrence. For your family's safety, please do not disturb it further. A professional inspection is the critical first step to assess the full extent and create a safe remediation plan. Call our team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment. We can determine if it's a containment situation and get your home back to a healthy state. |
