AC Leak Causing Mold: DIY Fix or Call Pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah seems to be leaking a little water onto the carpet underneath, and now I’m seeing a few small black spots forming along the base of the wall. It’s been getting slowly worse over the last couple of weeks with this humidity. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and a good scrub, or do I need to call in a professional cleaning company here in Dubai?

Based on your description of a recurring AC leak and visible black spots on the wall base in Jumeirah, this is a very common issue in Dubai's climate. The high humidity acts as a constant fuel source, turning a small water leak into a significant mold incubator.

While the visible spots may seem small, the real concern is the hidden moisture that has wicked up into the drywall and potentially into the carpet backing and subfloor. Bleach is a common but ineffective DIY mistake; it only bleaches the surface color and does not kill the mold roots (hyphae) or address the hidden contamination. It can also release harmful fumes, especially in an enclosed space.

For a situation involving building materials like drywall and carpet, professional assessment is strongly recommended. The remediation process isn't just cleaning; it involves identifying the exact moisture source (e.g., clogged condensate drain line, faulty installation), containing the affected area to prevent cross-contamination, safely removing and disposing of porous materials, and using specialized equipment like HEPA vacuums and antimicrobial agents to properly treat the area.

We operate in full compliance with Dubai Municipality and civil defense guidelines for environmental health and safety. Given the potential for structural damage and health implications from prolonged exposure, a proper inspection is key. We can identify the full extent and provide a clear scope of work.
