Can I clean mold from AC leak myself?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the wall behind the guest room wardrobe. I just pulled it away and found a patch of black and green mold about the size of my hand on the drywall. It's been insanely humid lately, and I'm worried about it spreading. Is this something I can safely clean myself with bleach, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on the scenario you've described, this is not a situation I would recommend handling yourself. While the visible patch is small, an AC condensate leak inside a wall cavity here in the UAE is a serious concern. The extreme humidity we're experiencing acts like an incubator, allowing mold to proliferate rapidly in hidden areas you cannot see, such as inside the drywall and on the back of the wardrobe.

Using bleach is highly inadvisable. It is mostly water, which can actually feed the mold roots deep within porous materials like drywall. Furthermore, bleach's strong fumes are hazardous in an enclosed space and it is ineffective at killing the root structure, leading to rapid regrowth.

For a proper remediation, the affected drywall likely needs to be removed to assess the full extent, the area must be professionally dried using industrial dehumidifiers, and the mold must be treated with specialized antimicrobial agents, not household cleaners. Disturbing it incorrectly can aerosolize spores and contaminate other areas of your apartment.

Given Dubai's strict health and safety standards for buildings, a professional inspection is crucial to diagnose the source of the AC leak and the full scope of contamination. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to see what's happening inside the walls without guesswork.

For a definitive assessment and safe, guaranteed remediation, it's best to call our certified team. We can provide a clear action plan.
