How to permanently stop mold in closet from humidity?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom closet on the outside wall has started getting this black speckled mold in the corners, especially after the recent humid weather. We’ve wiped it down with vinegar a couple of times, but it just keeps coming back within a few weeks, and I'm worried about our clothes and the air quality. What’s the most effective long-term solution to kill it for good and stop the moisture from building up in there in the first place?

The recurring black mold in your bedroom closet is a classic symptom of high humidity and condensation, a prevalent issue in Dubai due to our climate. The outside wall is likely a "cold bridge," where the interior surface temperature drops below the dew point, causing moisture from the humid air to condense. Vinegar is a superficial fix; it may temporarily clean visible growth but does not address the underlying moisture source or kill the root system (hyphae) within the porous materials.

For a permanent solution, a two-pronged approach is essential: remediation and moisture control. First, the mold must be professionally remediated. This involves containment to prevent spore dispersal, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial application by certified technicians to ensure complete eradication, not just surface cleaning.

Second, and most critically, you must control the humidity. In the UAE, this is non-negotiable. Ensure your AC is running consistently, even when you are out, to maintain a relative humidity below 60%. Immediately inspect the closet's ventilation; installing a small, dedicated exhaust fan or leaving the closet door ajar can drastically improve air circulation. For severe cold bridging, an assessment of your wall's insulation may be necessary.

Given the recurrence, I strongly recommend a professional inspection. Our certified team at Saniservice uses thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact location and cause of condensation and moisture intrusion. We provide a comprehensive remediation plan compliant with Dubai Municipality guidelines.
