Mold on clothes from AC leak: clean myself or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom closet has been leaking for a while and I just pulled out a stack of winter clothes to find patches of black and green mold all over them. The wall behind the unit feels damp too. I’m worried it’s spread further inside the wall. Should I try to clean this myself with bleach or is it time to call a professional?

Based on the description of your situation, this is a serious contamination event that requires immediate professional intervention. Attempting to clean this yourself with bleach is not advisable and is likely to exacerbate the problem.

The black and green mold growth on your clothes and the damp wall indicates a significant, ongoing moisture issue from the AC leak. The high humidity and constant air conditioning use typical of the Dubai climate create an ideal environment for mold to proliferate deep within building materials. The dampness you feel on the wall strongly suggests the mold has colonized the drywall and insulation behind it. Disturbing it through DIY cleaning will aerosolize a high concentration of spores, contaminating your entire living space and posing a serious health risk. Bleach is ineffective on porous materials like drywall and concrete, as it only bleaches the surface mold while leaving the root structure intact, allowing it to regrow quickly.

In the UAE, proper mold remediation is governed by strict hygiene and environmental standards to ensure occupant safety and prevent cross-contamination. A certified professional inspection is absolutely necessary. Our process involves using thermal imaging and moisture meters to map the full extent of the hidden damage, followed by engineering controls like negative air pressure chambers and HEPA filtration to safely contain and remove the contaminated materials. Your clothing may be salvageable through specialized industrial hygienization processes.

For a situation of this severity, do not delay. I strongly recommend you contact a certified professional immediately. Call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection and remediation plan.
