Black mold in closet: call pro and cost for small area?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet in Silicon Oasis. I think it's from all the humidity we had a couple of weeks ago. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it came right back. Is this something I should call a professional company for, and what’s the typical cost for a small area like this?

Based on your description, this is a classic case of mold growth exacerbated by the Dubai climate. The persistent humidity we experience, even indoors due to year-round air conditioning creating temperature differentials, provides the perfect environment for mold spores to colonize. The fact that the growth returned after a DIY treatment with vinegar is a significant indicator that you are dealing with a more established colony and, crucially, that the underlying moisture source has not been identified and controlled.

For a situation like this in a closet, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. While the visible area may seem small, mold often grows behind baseboards, drywall, and on the back of furniture. A certified inspector will use tools like a moisture meter and thermal imaging camera to locate the exact moisture source—which could be a small condensation leak from an AC duct, a plumbing issue within the wall, or simply inadequate ventilation—and assess the full extent of the contamination.

Regarding cost, for a localized area such as a single closet, the inspection and remediation process in the UAE typically ranges from AED 1,500 to AED 3,500. This cost is justified as it includes a comprehensive assessment, containment of the area to prevent cross-contamination, professional-grade antimicrobial treatment, removal of affected porous materials if necessary, and most importantly, resolving the moisture issue to prevent recurrence.
