Can I remove black mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, probably from the humidity. I wiped it with vinegar but it came back in a few days. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described—coughing in children and recurring black mold—this is a situation that requires immediate professional assessment and remediation. The fact that the mold returned after a DIY vinegar treatment is a significant red flag. Vinegar is a surface-level disinfectant and does not address the underlying moisture source or the deeply embedded hyphae (root structure) of the mold colony. In the high-humidity climate of Dubai, where year-round AC use can create significant condensation issues within building envelopes, mold growth is a persistent and complex problem.

Attempting a stronger cleaner yourself is not advisable. Disturbing the colony without proper containment can aerosolize toxic mycotoxins and spores, significantly worsening the indoor air quality and potentially exacerbating your family's respiratory issues. Furthermore, improper handling can lead to cross-contamination to other areas of your home.

In the UAE, professional mold remediation is governed by strict health and safety standards. A certified company like Saniservice follows a precise protocol: first, a comprehensive inspection and air quality testing to identify the species and spore count; second, engineering controls to set up containment and negative air pressure to prevent spread; and finally, using specialized equipment like HEPA vacuums and antimicrobial agents to eradicate the colony at its source. They will also identify and rectify the core moisture issue, which is critical to preventing recurrence.

Given the health risks to your children and the technical nature of proper remediation, I strongly recommend you call in a professional. For a certified inspection and a guaranteed remediation plan, please contact Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
