Black mold behind wardrobe: DIY bleach or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah seems to be leaking a bit, and now we have these black speckles spreading on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. I wiped it with vinegar but it came back darker in just a couple of days. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach or should I just call one of those professional mold removal companies here?

Based on the description of black speckles reappearing after a DIY attempt, this is a classic case of active mold growth, likely exacerbated by Dubai's high humidity and the constant condensation from your AC unit. The fact it returned darker indicates the colony is established and the vinegar treatment was insufficient, only removing surface discoloration while leaving the root structure intact within the wall.

Using bleach is strongly discouraged. It is primarily water, which the mold can use to regrow, and its chlorine content evaporates quickly, leaving behind food sources. Furthermore, in an enclosed space, mixing bleach with the acetic acid residue from your vinegar application can produce toxic chlorine gas, creating a significant health hazard.

This situation requires professional intervention. The leak must be identified and repaired first; otherwise, the moisture problem will persist. The mold behind the wardrobe suggests possible growth within the wall cavity, which demands specialized equipment for assessment and remediation. In the UAE, reputable companies like Saniservice follow strict protocols for containment, air filtration, and removal using EPA-approved biocides that effectively neutralize the mold at its root, preventing recurrence. They also perform post-remediation verification to ensure the environment is safe.

For a confirmed moisture issue like this, a professional inspection is not just recommended, it is necessary. I advise against further DIY attempts. Please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive assessment and a permanent solution.
