Can I clean AC mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom seems to be leaking a little water onto the carpet, and now I’m seeing a few small black spots in the corner behind the wardrobe. It’s been getting worse over the last couple of weeks. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach spray from the supermarket, or do I need to call in a professional cleaning company?

Based on your description of an AC leak and visible black spots behind the wardrobe, this is a situation that warrants immediate professional attention. The climate in Dubai, characterized by extreme heat and humidity, creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. The condensation from your air conditioner provides the constant moisture source mold needs to thrive.

While a bleach spray from the supermarket may remove the superficial discoloration on non-porous surfaces, it is completely ineffective on porous materials like carpet and the underlying padding. Bleach does not kill the root structure (hyphae) of the mold and its high water content can actually feed the infestation further, causing it to return stronger and spread invisibly behind walls and under flooring. This poses a potential health risk and can lead to significant property damage.

In the UAE, proper mold remediation requires specific protocols and EPA-approved biocides that are not available to the public. A professional inspection is crucial to determine the full extent of the contamination, identify the moisture source (in this case, the AC leak, which also needs repair by an HVAC technician), and safely contain and remove the affected materials.

For a thorough inspection and a guaranteed remediation plan that addresses both the visible growth and the hidden moisture problem, I strongly recommend contacting our certified specialists. Call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
