Urgent: Black mold in bedroom closet, health risk?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind the clothes. It's on the wall and seems to be spreading. The recent humidity has been awful and I'm worried it's a serious health risk for my family. How urgently do I need to get this professionally removed, and is this something the building management should handle or do I call a specialist directly?

Based on your description, this is a situation that requires immediate professional attention. The presence of a large, spreading patch of black mold in a bedroom closet is a significant health and structural concern, especially given Dubai's high humidity levels and year-round air conditioning use, which creates ideal conditions for mold proliferation.

The urgency is high. Prolonged exposure to mycotoxins from certain types of black mold can lead to serious respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and other health problems, particularly for vulnerable individuals. Do not attempt to remove this yourself, as improper handling can aerosolize the spores and significantly worsen contamination throughout your home.

Regarding responsibility: For a rental property, you must notify your building management or landlord immediately. Under UAE tenancy laws, they are typically responsible for the structural integrity of the building. However, the remediation of the mold itself and any contents cleaning often falls to the tenant or requires a specialized contractor. They may send a maintenance team, but for a case of this severity, a professional mold inspection and remediation company is strongly advised to ensure it is handled safely and completely.

We recommend you call a specialist directly for a comprehensive inspection. At Saniservice, our certified experts use thermal imaging and moisture meters to identify the exact moisture source (likely a hidden pipe leak or condensation from the AC system) and perform air quality testing to determine the spore count and species. The remediation process involves containment, HEPA filtration, antimicrobial application, and ensuring the root cause is fixed to prevent recurrence.

For immediate assistance, please call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
