Black mold in closet: DIY or call Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots growing in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It's been incredibly humid the last few weeks and I'm worried it's spreading. Is this something I can tackle myself with vinegar or bleach, or do I need to call a professional mold inspection company here in Dubai to check for a bigger problem?

Based on your description, this scenario is highly indicative of a mold issue that warrants a professional inspection, especially given Dubai's climate. The combination of an interior closet, recent high humidity, and visible growth suggests a potential moisture problem that may extend beyond the visible spots. The persistent use of air conditioning can create significant temperature differentials, leading to condensation within wall cavities, which is a common hidden source of moisture here in the UAE.

While small surface growth can sometimes be addressed with a detergent solution (we do not recommend bleach or vinegar as they are ineffective at killing mold roots and can exacerbate spore release), your concern about it spreading is critical. Attempting a DIY cleanup without identifying and rectifying the underlying moisture source is a temporary fix at best. In a building environment, this could stem from a small plumbing leak, condensation from an AC duct, or even interstitial condensation within the wall.

The UAE's regulatory framework for healthy buildings places emphasis on identifying and resolving such indoor environmental quality issues properly. A certified mold inspection from a company like Saniservice involves using tools such as moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and air/surface sampling to accurately diagnose the extent of the contamination and the root cause. This is not a visual assessment.

Given the potential for hidden growth and the health implications of prolonged exposure, I strongly recommend a professional evaluation. Our team can provide a comprehensive assessment to give you peace of mind. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
