Can I clean closet mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started to feel damp, and I just found a patch of black and green fuzzy mold on my leather bags and the wall behind them. It’s been incredibly humid the last few weeks even with the AC running constantly. Is this something I can safely clean myself with bleach or vinegar, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai to make sure it doesn't come back?

Based on the symptoms you've described—a damp outside wall closet with fuzzy growth on both leather and drywall—this is a situation that warrants a professional inspection and likely remediation. The constant humidity in Dubai, even with AC running, creates a significant condensation risk, especially on exterior walls which can be cooler. This persistent moisture source means a simple surface clean will almost certainly fail.

Attempting a DIY clean with bleach or vinegar is strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous materials like drywall and can actually feed the mold root structure, while vinegar is a temporary suppressant. More critically, improper cleaning can aerosolize toxic mold spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your home. The mold has already colonized the wall, indicating a deeper issue that surface cleaning cannot address.

In the UAE, professional remediation is governed by strict standards (such as those from DM and NCMS) to ensure complete removal and prevent recurrence. A certified company like Saniservice will first conduct a comprehensive inspection to identify the exact species (crucial for health risks) and the full extent of the moisture intrusion. Remediation involves isolating the area with negative air pressure, safely removing contaminated materials like the affected drywall, and employing industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobial treatments to eliminate the colony at its source.

To properly solve this and protect your health and property, I recommend contacting our specialists for a detailed assessment. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
