Can I clean AC mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a bit onto the carpet for a couple of weeks, and now I’m seeing a small black spot in the corner that smells damp. I wiped it with bleach but it came back after a few days. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional company to handle it?

Based on the symptoms you've described—a recurring black spot on damp carpet from an AC leak—this is a clear case of active mold growth that requires professional attention. The Dubai climate, with its extreme humidity and year-round reliance on air conditioning, creates a perfect environment for mold, particularly when condensation or leaks provide a constant moisture source. While bleach may appear to remove surface discoloration, it is ineffective at killing the mold roots (hyphae) penetrating the carpet fibers and, more critically, the underlying padding and concrete slab. The damp smell confirms that moisture has permeated deep into the materials.

Attempting a stronger DIY cleaner is not advised. It will not address the hidden microbial reservoir and could aerosolize spores, potentially spreading the contamination to other areas of your bedroom and impacting indoor air quality. Furthermore, improper chemical use can violate Dubai Municipality's public health and environmental safety guidelines for handling biocides.

A professional remediation company like Saniservice is essential. Our certified mold inspectors will conduct a comprehensive assessment, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, to determine the full extent of the contamination. The remediation process involves isolating the affected area, safely removing and disposing of the contaminated carpet and padding, performing specialized antimicrobial treatment on the sub-floor, and using industrial-grade HEPA filtration to purify the air. Crucially, we will also identify and rectify the root cause—the AC leak—to prevent immediate recurrence.

For a proper inspection and lasting solution, it is best to call in our experts. You can reach us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a consultation.
