Can I remove mold with vinegar or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed these weird black speckles spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet. The dehumidifier broke during the last humid spell, and I'm worried it's the cause. Is this something I can tackle with a vinegar spray myself, or do I need to call in one of those professional mold remediation companies in Dubai?

Based on my experience as a certified mold inspector in the UAE, the answer to whether you can use vinegar depends entirely on the severity and type of contamination. The scenario you describe—black speckles appearing in a closet after a dehumidifier failure during a humid spell—is a classic case we see in Dubai.

While a diluted white vinegar solution can be a temporary, superficial measure for very minor surface mold on non-porous materials, it is not a remediation strategy. Vinegar is ineffective against all mold species and, crucially, does not address the root cause: the moisture problem. In the UAE's high-humidity climate, where condensation and year-round AC use create perfect breeding grounds, a DIY approach often spreads spores or pushes the problem deeper into building materials like drywall and plaster, which are porous.

Given the location (a closed, dark closet) and the fact it has been developing for some time, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. What appears as superficial "speckles" on the surface can often hide extensive colonization within the wall cavity. Our standard procedure involves using moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to assess the full extent of the damage, followed by air and surface sampling to identify the specific species, as some "black molds" can be more hazardous than others.

Attempting removal yourself risks inadequate containment, leading to cross-contamination and potential health issues. For a confirmed and established growth like this, the safe and compliant solution is professional remediation. I recommend contacting Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection. Their certified team can properly assess the situation, provide a detailed scope of work, and ensure the mold is removed safely and in accordance with local guidelines.
