Can I clean black mold myself or need a professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black speckles forming along the edges of the wardrobe in our master bedroom. The room feels damp and the aircon unit is right on the other side of that wall. Is this something I can clean with bleach myself, or do I need to call in a professional company to check for a bigger problem?

Based on the symptoms you've described—black speckles along the wardrobe, a persistent damp feeling, and proximity to an AC unit—this is a classic case of mold growth exacerbated by Dubai's high humidity and condensation from air conditioning systems.

While a small, isolated patch might be addressed with a diluted detergent solution (we do not recommend bleach as it can exacerbate the problem and is ineffective on porous surfaces), your situation indicates a potential systemic issue. The dampness suggests an underlying moisture source that is not being addressed. This could be a leaking AC drain line, excessive condensation due to poor insulation on the cold wall behind the unit, or even a breach in the building envelope. Simply wiping the visible mold will not solve the root cause, and the growth will return, often more aggressively.

In the UAE, especially for a recurrent issue in a bedroom, a professional inspection is strongly advised. Our certified inspectors use tools like thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture intrusion that you cannot see. We then provide a detailed remediation protocol that addresses both the fungal contamination and the moisture problem, ensuring it complies with local health and safety guidelines.
