AC mold in Dubai: DIY vinegar or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC unit in my bedroom in our Jumeirah villa has been leaking a bit, and now I’m seeing small black spots spreading on the wall behind the curtain. We only noticed it a week ago but it seems to be getting worse with the humidity. Is this something I can tackle myself with a vinegar spray from the supermarket, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company in Dubai?

The black spots you're seeing are a classic sign of mold growth, a very common issue in Dubai villas due to our extreme humidity and constant AC use. The AC leak provides the perfect moisture source, and the organic material in the drywall and dust acts as a food source for mold spores, which are always present in the air.

While a vinegar solution can kill surface mold on non-porous tiles, it is completely ineffective for a situation like yours. The mold has likely penetrated the porous gypsum-based drywall. Surface cleaning will not address the root infestation, and the colony will rapidly regrow. More concerning is that DIY scrubbing can aerosolize a high concentration of spores, potentially spreading the contamination to your HVAC system and other rooms, and causing significant health issues.

For this scenario, professional remediation is not just recommended; it is necessary. Dubai Municipality has specific guidelines for mold and water damage remediation to ensure the health and safety of occupants. Our process involves a full containment of the affected area with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination, professional-grade HEPA filtration to remove spores from the air, safe removal and disposal of the compromised drywall, and a thorough hygienization of the underlying structure and the AC unit itself with EPA-approved antimicrobial agents.

Given the location in your bedroom, where you spend hours breathing the air, a professional inspection and remediation is the only safe course of action. I strongly recommend you call our certified team for an assessment. Please contact Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
