Is black mold from AC dangerous for my toddler?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our Jumeirah villa has been leaking a bit for a while, but now I’ve found what looks like black mold all around the vent in my toddler’s bedroom. We’ve all been feeling more tired than usual and my son has had a runny nose for weeks that won’t go away. How dangerous is this and who should I call to get it properly tested and cleaned?

Based on the symptoms you've described—persistent fatigue and a weeks-long runny nose in your toddler—this is a situation that requires immediate professional attention. The black substance around the AC vent is highly likely to be mold, a significant health hazard, particularly for young children whose respiratory and immune systems are still developing.

In the UAE's climate, this is a common but serious issue. The high humidity, combined with condensation from air conditioning systems, creates the perfect environment for mold growth, especially when a leak is present. The mycotoxins and spores released by certain types of black mold (like Stachybotrys chartarum) can cause the exact symptoms you are experiencing, ranging from chronic allergic reactions and sinusitis to more severe respiratory complications.

For your family's safety, do not attempt to clean this yourself. Disturbing the mold colony without proper containment will aerosolize the spores, spreading them throughout your villa and exacerbating the problem. UAE regulations and best practices require that this situation be handled by certified professionals.

You need a comprehensive assessment from a company that specializes in mold inspection, testing, and remediation. They will conduct air and surface sampling to identify the specific mold type and its concentration, then execute a controlled remediation plan that includes containment, HEPA filtration, and hygienization of the entire affected area, including the AC ductwork.

I strongly recommend you contact Saniservice for an immediate inspection. They are experts in dealing with mold in Dubai's unique climate. You can reach their certified specialists at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or via email at hello@saniservice.com to schedule a diagnostic visit.
