Should I hire a professional for black mould in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mould in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and with all this humidity lately, it seems to be getting bigger. I’m tempted to just scrub it with bleach myself, but I’m worried it might be a bigger issue inside the walls. Is a professional mould inspection in Dubai worth the cost for something like this, or is it a DIY job?

Based on your description, a professional mold inspection is strongly recommended and is worth the cost. The presence of black mold on an exterior-facing wall is a significant red flag. In Dubai's climate, with its extreme humidity and constant air conditioning use, this often indicates a more serious, hidden problem. The mold you see is likely just the "bloom" or fruiting body; the main root structure (mycelium) is probably thriving deep within the wall cavity, potentially on the back of the drywall and within the insulation.

Scrubbing it with bleach is a common but ineffective DIY approach. Bleach only removes surface discoloration and does not kill the roots. Furthermore, it introduces excessive moisture, which can actually fuel further mold growth. Disturbing it through improper cleaning can also aerosolize harmful spores, contaminating other areas of your closet and bedroom.

Our inspection process involves using specialized equipment like borescopes to inspect inside the wall cavity and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture intrusion, which could be a tiny crack in the building envelope, capillary action from the foundation, or internal condensation due to the temperature differential from your AC. UAE regulations and building codes have specific requirements for managing indoor air quality and dampness, and a professional assessment ensures these are met.

For a proper diagnosis and remediation plan to protect your health and property, I advise against a DIY solution. Contact our certified specialists at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
