Is black mold from AC leak dangerous for my family?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for a month and my own allergies are going crazy. I finally pulled our sofa away from the wall in our Jumeirah apartment and found a huge patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading from the corner, probably from a hidden AC leak. We've been sleeping right next to this. How dangerous is this specific type of mold and should we see a doctor immediately for the coughing?

Based on your description, the situation you've described is indeed serious and requires immediate attention. The term "black mold" often refers to Stachybotrys chartarum, a toxigenic mold that produces mycotoxins. In the humid, air-conditioned environment of a Dubai apartment, a hidden AC leak creates a perfect breeding ground for such mold. The persistent coughing and allergic reactions you and your children are experiencing are classic symptoms of prolonged exposure to mold spores, which can irritate the respiratory tract and exacerbate allergies and asthma.

Given the severity of the symptoms—especially in children—and the duration of exposure, it is strongly advisable to consult a doctor immediately to address the health effects. Do not attempt to clean this yourself, as disturbing the mold will release a massive cloud of spores throughout your apartment, worsening the contamination and your family's exposure.

This scenario is precisely why professional remediation is mandated under Dubai Municipality's public health and safety regulations. Our certified team at Saniservice is equipped to perform a comprehensive inspection, including air and surface sampling to identify the exact species and spore count. We then execute a controlled remediation process using HEPA filtration and antimicrobial treatments to safely remove the biohazard, followed by identifying and rectifying the source of the moisture leak.

For immediate assistance and to schedule an inspection, please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. Your family's health is the priority.
