Found black mold in child's room. Clean myself or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold behind the wardrobe in my kids' bedroom. It's been extra humid in Dubai this season, and my youngest has been waking up with a stuffy nose and a cough that clears up once we leave the house for the day. I'm really worried about their health. What is the safest and most effective way to clean this ourselves, or should I call a professional company right away?

Based on your description, I strongly recommend you call a professional inspection company immediately and avoid attempting to clean it yourself. The presence of black mold (which could be Stachybotrys chartarum or another toxigenic species), coupled with your child's recurring respiratory symptoms that improve outside the home, is a significant health red flag. In the UAE's high humidity climate, especially with year-round AC use that can create condensation in hidden spaces, mold growth can be extensive behind walls and under flooring, far beyond the visible patch.

DIY cleaning with bleach or commercial products is ineffective and hazardous. It will not address the root moisture problem and can aerosolize harmful mycotoxins, worsening indoor air quality and potentially causing severe health issues for your children. UAE regulations, particularly from Dubai Municipality, emphasize the importance of professional assessment and remediation to ensure the complete removal of contaminants and the restoration of a safe indoor environment.

A certified professional from a company like Saniservice will conduct a thorough inspection, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, to identify the full extent of the infestation and the source of moisture. They then execute a controlled remediation process using industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobial agents, ensuring the mold is safely contained and removed.

For the safety of your family, do not disturb the area. Please contact our experts for a confidential consultation at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or via email at hello@saniservice.com.
