Can I clean black mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We’ve lived in our Mirdif villa for 2 years and just noticed it when moving furniture to rearrange. The wall feels damp and the patch is about the size of a dinner plate, with these dark greenish-black spots.
Is this something I can clean myself with bleach, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, this is a situation that absolutely warrants a professional inspection and remediation. The presence of a damp wall and a visible patch the size of a dinner plate indicates a significant moisture issue, likely from a hidden leak or severe condensation within the wall cavity. The respiratory symptoms in your children are a major red flag and should not be ignored.
Using bleach is strongly discouraged. It is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and plaster, as it only bleaches the surface mold without addressing the roots (hyphae) growing within the material. More critically, improper cleaning can agitate the spores, releasing a massive amount of mycotoxins and allergens into your indoor air, potentially worsening your family's health symptoms. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold, the visible growth is often just the tip of the iceberg. The dampness suggests the problem is widespread behind the wall. UAE regulations and best practices for indoor air quality require addressing both the visible contamination and the underlying moisture source to prevent rapid regrowth. For the health of your family and the integrity of your villa, I recommend a certified professional inspection. We at Saniservice use thermal imaging to locate the moisture source and advanced techniques to safely contain, remove, and hygienize the area. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment. Do not disturb the area until it has been professionally evaluated. |
