Can I remove black mold myself or need a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It’s on the wall that faces the outside and it's been really humid lately. Is this something I can handle myself with a bleach spray from the supermarket, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

While a small, isolated patch of mold might be tempting to treat yourself, it is rarely advisable, especially in Dubai's unique climate. The visible mold is often just the "fruit" of a larger, hidden colony within the wall cavity, activated by the high humidity and constant temperature fluctuations between our intense outdoor heat and year-round air conditioning, which causes significant condensation.

Using a supermarket bleach spray is strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and wood, as it only removes the surface discoloration while leaving the root structure intact. More critically, it can agitate the spores, causing them to become airborne and spread to other areas of your villa. For any mold covering more than one square meter, or if it has resulted from a known water leak, Dubai Municipality guidelines and best practices recommend assessment and remediation by a certified professional.

A professional inspection is crucial. We would identify the precise moisture source—whether it's a minor condensation issue or a more serious leak—and use thermal imaging and moisture meters to determine the full extent of the infestation hidden within the wall. Our remediation process then involves advanced techniques like controlled containment with negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatments to not only remove the mold but also correct the underlying moisture problem to prevent recurrence.

For a proper assessment of your Jumeirah villa, I recommend you contact our certified team for an inspection. Please call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a visit.
