Is this mold causing my kids' cough in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing at night and we just noticed a bunch of black spots behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom in Jumeirah. It's been so humid the last few weeks that our windows are always fogged up in the morning. Is this definitely mold and does anyone know a good company that does a proper inspection and air quality test, not just a quick cleanup?

Based on your description, it is highly probable that the black spots behind the wardrobe are mold growth, specifically a type that thrives in the conditions you've described. The persistent humidity in Dubai, particularly during the summer and in areas with poor ventilation, creates an ideal environment for mold. The condensation on your windows is a clear indicator of excessive indoor moisture, which, when trapped behind large furniture like a wardrobe, leads to the perfect breeding ground.

The link between this mold and your children's nighttime coughing is very plausible. Mold releases microscopic spores and microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) into the air, which are known respiratory irritants. Children are particularly susceptible to these allergens, and symptoms often worsen at night due to prolonged exposure in an enclosed bedroom.

A quick cleanup is insufficient and can be hazardous, as it often disturbs the colony and aerosolizes a high concentration of spores throughout your home. A professional inspection is critical. In the UAE, reputable companies like ours follow a strict protocol: we conduct a visual assessment, use moisture meters and thermal imaging to locate hidden dampness, and perform air quality testing to identify the spore types and concentration levels. This data is essential to determine the correct remediation strategy and to confirm the source is eradicated, not just the visible stain.

For a proper assessment and to ensure your family's health, I strongly recommend contacting a certified professional. You can reach our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection by calling 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or emailing hello@saniservice.com.
