Should my son see a doctor for mold exposure?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our villa in Jumeirah has been leaking a bit for a couple of months, and now I’ve spotted black mold around the vent in my youngest son’s bedroom. He’s been having a persistent runny nose and a weird cough for the last few weeks that just won’t go away, and I’m starting to get really worried. Is this something we need to go to the doctor for immediately, or will cleaning the mold and fixing the AC be enough to clear up his symptoms?

Based on the symptoms you've described—a persistent runny nose and a lingering cough—it is highly advisable to consult a doctor for your son. These are classic indicators of exposure to mold spores, which can trigger allergic reactions and respiratory irritation, particularly in children whose immune systems are still developing.

The presence of black mold around the AC vent is a significant concern. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold growth, a small leak can lead to a substantial microbial problem within the ductwork and building materials. Simply cleaning the visible mold is insufficient. The AC system itself likely requires professional hygienization to eradicate the contamination at its source, and the leak must be repaired to prevent immediate recurrence.

For your health and safety, I strongly recommend a professional indoor environmental inspection. Our certified technicians at Saniservice can conduct comprehensive air and surface sampling to identify the specific mold species and the extent of the contamination. This data is crucial for implementing an effective remediation protocol and can also be valuable information for your healthcare provider.

Do not delay in addressing this. Please schedule a consultation with your son's pediatrician and contact our team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com to arrange a thorough assessment of your villa.
