Is this dangerous black mold and who fixes it in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet. The wall feels a bit damp and it's gotten worse since the humidity kicked in last month. Is this dangerous black mold and who do I call in Dubai to fix this properly without getting ripped off?

Based on the description of black spots, a damp wall, and correlation with high humidity, there is a high probability you are dealing with a mold colony. The term "black mold" is often used to refer to Stachybotrys chartarum, a toxigenic species, but many other black-colored molds (like Aspergillus niger) can also cause health issues and property damage. Only professional testing can confirm the species.

In Dubai's climate, this is a common issue. The combination of high external humidity and year-round air conditioning creates significant temperature differentials, leading to condensation within building envelopes. Closets on exterior walls are prime locations for this, as air circulation is poor, allowing condensation to settle and create a persistent moisture source—the fundamental requirement for mold growth.

You should not attempt to remediate this yourself. Disturbing the colony without proper containment can aerosolize mycotoxins and spores, spreading the contamination throughout your home. Furthermore, incorrect cleaning with bleach or other retail products often only bleaches the visible surface, leaving the root system intact for rapid regrowth.

You need to call a certified mold inspection and remediation company. In Dubai, look for a provider that follows international guidelines like the IICRC S520 standard for professional mold remediation. They will conduct a thorough inspection, including moisture mapping and air/surface sampling to identify the species and extent of the contamination. The remediation process must involve engineering controls (containment, negative air pressure with HEPA filtration), safe removal of affected materials, and addressing the underlying moisture source to prevent recurrence.

For a proper diagnosis and a compliant, permanent solution, I recommend contacting Saniservice. They are a leading specialist in the UAE for these exact issues. You can reach their experts for a consultation at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com.
