Is black mold in Dubai dangerous for my toddler?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of fuzzy black spots appearing on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. We keep the AC on most of the time, but the room still feels damp, especially since the humidity started rising a few weeks ago. I’m really worried about my toddler who sleeps in there. What’s the fastest way to get this professionally tested and removed here in Dubai, and should we be staying somewhere else in the meantime?

Yes, the presence of black mold, particularly Stachybotrys chartarum, is a significant health concern, especially for a toddler whose developing respiratory and immune systems are more vulnerable. In Dubai's climate, where high external humidity forces air conditioning systems to run constantly, condensation is a primary driver for mold growth behind furniture like wardrobes, which restricts airflow and creates a damp microclimate.

The mycotoxins and spores released by this mold can lead to severe health effects. For your child, this exposure can manifest as persistent coughing, wheezing, nasal congestion, skin rashes, or eye irritation. Prolonged exposure is linked to the development of asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions. Your observation of a damp feeling in the room confirms the ideal conditions for prolific mold growth.

Given these risks, I strongly recommend you take immediate action. Do not attempt to remove it yourself, as improper handling will aerosolize a high concentration of harmful spores. Your family, particularly your toddler, should avoid the room until a professional assessment and remediation is complete.

The fastest way to address this is to engage a certified professional mold inspection and remediation company like Saniservice. Our process involves a thorough inspection, air and surface sampling to identify the species and spore count, and a comprehensive containment and removal protocol following UAE standards for healthy indoor environments. We can quickly diagnose the root cause, often related to AC condensation or a minor leak, and resolve it.

For immediate assistance and to schedule an inspection, please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
