Black mold in wardrobe: DIY clean or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our Mirdif villa for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the back of the walk-in wardrobe on the outer wall. It’s been worse since the humidity spiked last month. I'm worried it's from a leak and I don't want to just scrub it and have it come back. Is this a job for a professional, or can I safely tackle it myself with products from ACE?

Based on your description of a large patch of black mold on an outer wall in Mirdif, this is almost certainly a job for a professional. The location is a major red flag; mold on an exterior wall in a Dubai villa is a strong indicator of a hidden moisture issue, such as a leak from a pipe within the wall, a crack in the building envelope, or severe thermal bridging causing condensation.

The UAE's high humidity, especially during the summer months, exacerbates these issues. While scrubbing the surface with a product from ACE may remove the visible growth, it is a temporary fix. The underlying moisture source remains, guaranteeing the mold will return, often more aggressively and potentially spreading to the cavity within the wall. Disturbing the mold without proper containment and air filtration can also aerosolize harmful spores, contaminating other areas of your home and posing a health risk.

A professional approach is required. This starts with a certified inspection to identify the exact species of mold and, more critically, use tools like thermal imaging and moisture meters to pinpoint the hidden water source. The remediation process then involves isolating the area, safely removing contaminated materials, addressing the root cause (e.g., repairing the leak), and using industrial-grade equipment like HEPA air scrubbers to clean the air. A simple surface clean does not achieve this.

For a definitive solution that protects your property and health, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation. Contact our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive assessment. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
