Is bedroom mold causing my kids' cough in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past two weeks and I've just discovered a patch of black, fuzzy looking mold behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom, which shares a wall with their room. We live in an older building in Jumeirah and I'm worried the high humidity from the AC might be making it worse. Is this the dangerous black mold I keep hearing about and what's the fastest way to get it professionally tested and removed in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described and your location in a high-humidity coastal area like Jumeirah, it is highly probable that the mold growth is contributing to your children's persistent cough. The constant coughing is a classic symptom of exposure to mold spores, which act as a respiratory irritant and allergen.

The term "black mold" is often used to refer to Stachybotrys chartarum, a toxigenic species, but not all black-colored molds are this type. However, any mold growth in an indoor environment, regardless of species, is unacceptable and a health hazard. In Dubai's climate, the combination of extreme outdoor humidity and cold air conditioning leads to significant condensation, particularly on and behind furniture placed against exterior walls. This creates the perfect, damp environment for mold to flourish.

Attempting to clean it yourself is not recommended. Disturbing the colony will aerosolize a high concentration of spores, potentially worsening your family's exposure and spreading the contamination. A professional inspection is critical. Our certified inspectors use moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and air and surface sampling to identify the exact species, the extent of the infestation hidden within the wall cavity, and the precise moisture source.

For a situation involving health symptoms, immediate action is required. We adhere to the strict remediation guidelines set by the Dubai Municipality and use industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobial treatments to safely remove the biofilm and correct the underlying moisture issue.
