Can I clean black mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It's on the wall and seems to be spreading. We’re in an older building in Jumeirah and I'm worried the high humidity is making it worse. Is this something I can clean myself with a vinegar solution, or should I call a professional company to check for a bigger problem?

Based on the description of a recurring black mold patch in your closet in an older Jumeirah building, my professional recommendation is to call a professional inspection company immediately. This is not a situation for a DIY vinegar solution.
The presence of black mold, especially on a structural wall and in a location used for storage, is a significant red flag. In Dubai's high-humidity climate, mold growth inside a wall cavity is common due to condensation from year-round AC use or a potential hidden plumbing leak. A surface cleaning with vinegar will only address the visible colony, not the underlying moisture source. The mold will return, often more aggressively, and the hidden root cause could be causing structural damage. A certified inspector will conduct a comprehensive assessment, including moisture mapping and thermal imaging, to identify the exact source of the water intrusion. They will also perform air and surface sampling to identify the species of mold, which is critical as some types, like Stachybotrys chartarum (true "black mold"), can produce mycotoxins and require specialized remediation protocols for safe removal. For a thorough inspection and a certified remediation plan that complies with local Dubai Municipality standards, I strongly advise you to contact the professionals at Saniservice. They can be reached at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com. Do not disturb the area before testing, as this can release a large number of spores into your living environment. |
